3 Credits • Terms 1-3
A media composer’s job does not end with writing notes on a page. Understanding the recording, mixing, and post‑production process is essential for delivering music in the formats required by today’s film and game industries. Composers must know how their work fits into the larger production pipeline and how to prepare professional deliverables for post‑production teams.
This module equips students with the knowledge to navigate a studio session, communicate effectively with engineers, and make informed decisions about sound. By understanding the full process—from recording through to final mix—composers are able to ensure that their music retains its impact on screen, whether in a feature film, television series, or video game.
Students also have access to the Academy’s brand-new acoustically treated mixing room, which is available for their use throughout the year. This space serves as a hub for hands-on learning, hosting one-on-one and small group sessions with faculty to refine students’ technical and creative mixing skills.
