Burgas is one of Bulgaria’s major coastal cities, located along the Black Sea and known for its relaxed atmosphere, vibrant cultural scene, and direct connection to the sea. With its expansive Sea Garden, sandy beaches, and active summer festival calendar, the city offers a unique balance between creative energy and coastal calm—an ideal setting for focused artistic work.

The local currency is the euro (EUR), and while Bulgarian is the official language, English is widely spoken, especially in central and coastal areas. Burgas is an easy city to settle into, even if you’re arriving from abroad. Airport and other transports for tourists

Burgas Airport is the main airport serving the city. It is located about 10 kilometers from the city center and offers flights to a number of destinations, including Sofia, Bucharest, and Istanbul. There are also a number of bus and train services that connect Burgas to other cities in Bulgaria and the rest of Europe. Most of our composers and staff fly into the Burgas airport for the Film Scoring Summer Programme, though flying into Sofia and traveling by bus is always an option.

Beaches: The entire city of Burgas is lined with a beautiful beach. The popular Golden Sands Beach is nearby and is one of the longest and most popular beaches in Bulgaria.
Historical sites: Burgas offers several cultural and historical landmarks, including the Ethnographic Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Burgas, and the Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius.
Cultural attractions: Burgas has a number of cultural attractions, including the State Opera House, the Burgas Philharmonic, and the Sea Garden, a vast coastal park with sculptures, promenades, and sea views. Our composers always enjoy inspiring evening walks in the Burgas Sea Garden!
